Beard Grooming Buyers Guide
Beard Care- We Care.
Beards are in. Like so in that we have heard people are getting beard transplants just to stay with the “cool crowd.” Man have things changed. While beard transplants and taking trips to Mars may be a myth, so can be all the stuff people try to seek you on when it comes to taking care of that soft patch of perfection growing out of your face. While beard trends are cool- buying stuff that doesn’t really help your beard is not so cool. So, we decided to develop this beard care buyers guide from dudes who actually have and been taking care of their beards before it hit the trending category on social media. What you need and what you don’t is important to understand- no matter the beard, no matter the beard style!
What you Need:
The essentials for any beard care comes down to a few products that you need to groom, prune, and fine tune your beard so it can look it’s best. The most popular beard styles wouldn't be possible to achieve without proper grooming. Take a look at the grooming essentials!
Face Wash/Beard Wash
Guys we need to wash our face. Period. We have fought the fight long enough but it’s time. Now that you have an epic beard (or even stubble) you need to wash it. That is why you will need to grab a beard wash or beard+face wash combo. We prefer the brand Cremo over some others as their price point is good and they ingredients are just as solid. A good beard face wash lets you tackle two things at once and if it’s gentle enough for your face it should work for your beard.
Beard Trimmer
It’s a known fact that beards continue to grow despite wanting them to stop or take on a certain shape when you get the look you want. One way to help manage your mane is to trim it up. Don’t go at it with scissors or a hair trimmer. Scissors will give you uneven cuts and a hair trimmer can’t tackle the little subtle aspects a beard trimmer can handle. We prefer the Wahl brand of trimmers as they are a solid price point and have been around for ages. Grab a great trimmer so you can swap out length clippers and get the exact look you want.
Scissors
While a trimmer is needed, so is a fine pair of trimming scissors. We’re not talking kitchen size scissors here- we mean nose hair size trimmers. These work great to grab the stragglers that get into your nose from your stash or down your lip from repeat offender: the stash. Scissors will keep the hairs even and give a fine tune aspect of beard grooming.
Beard Oil
We’re not going to lie: we rarely use beard oil. But we do once in awhile and know guys who need it to help with beard dryness. If your beard hits a certain length the dryness fades. But for new beards or guys with dry roots, a beard oil can help reduce itching, give a shiny look and add some health to the beard. If you’re going to dive into some beard oil- take a look at BadAss Beard Care. They have a solid line of options.
That’s it. Just these 4 things are the beard care must haves. Now, must wants are a whole other conversation in itself. There are some cool add ons but they are more so in line with toppings on a dessert if you catch what we are saying.
What you Want:
Beard Comb/Brush
Brushes and combs can help straighten out the beard hair to allow a smoother and more straight flow to the growth pattern. Combs are not an absolute must but they do help if you are really into styling and shaping your beard growth.
Beard Wax/Balm
We’ve never been really into waxes and balms but we see the draw. Balms and waxes really allow you to mold the beard and focus parts of your stash, beard bottom, or sides. We get it- it’s cool to add dimension and customization but it’s in no way going to make or break how your beard grows or looks naturally.
Beard Shaper
The beard shaper is the guide tool for perfect lines and trimming angles. For the man looking for perfect edges and trim lines a shaper tool can really do the trick.
Beard must haves and must wants can help get your beard to the look, style, and health that you desire. While we wouldn’t suggest stocking up on everything all at once, we do suggest finding the must haves first and building from there. Happy grooming.
