Skincare for Guys- About Man-time!

Guys- skin care is important. No, not for your girl, your mom, or any other important lady in your life- we’re talking to you! Your skin is important whether it’s shielded by a grizzly looking beard, caked with sunscreen or hidden behind a mask while you fight fires, weld, or do whatever people wearing masks do. Look, the bottom line is good skincare products are important for guys- and it may be hard to come by.

INITIAL IMPRESSIONS

It sort of was a loaded expectation when we grabbed ahold of the delivered Man Up Skincare Box.  Seeing the tape holding the box closed labeled “Man Up” had us kinda feeling that same way when a buddy says “This movie is the BEST I’ve ever seen.” The results often don’t match the hype- ya know? This time however they hype matched what was inside the box.

We cracked open the box to find the two products we review in this post. The first product was their Post-Shave Splash and the second product was the Replenishing Serum. Both products offer a unique take on men’s grooming essentials and gave us two different product lines to put to the test. The packaging, bottles, labels and all around vibe of the brand stood out as something we could get behind (or put on our faces for that matter). Heck even the texture of the bottles were solid and cool. The Replenishing Serum bottle has a top that doubles as a dropper, giving you ultimate control over the amount you want to use at any given time. The Post-Shave Splash bottle is also a great concept because with a push down spray button, you’re able to hit the parts of your face that are intended- not some violent spray-all-over the place like the gauntlet at a department store perfume department would do. Yikes. 

The bottles, branding, packaging and vibe around Man Up Skincare so far is solid and on point. 

Our overall duuude first impression: If this stuff works like it promises, take our money now!

TESTING IT OUT

That feeling when you apply a product to your face for the first time is sort of like the episode of Saved By The Bell where Zach and Screech make the zit cream. Everyone slathered it on and instantly had success but days later they looked like they were attacked by the Zit gods. While our feelings were not exactly that level of nervous, we were anxious to see what it actually did to our faces when applied. Spoiler alert- it did nothing...but make us want to continue using more. 

Our first test was on the Post Shave Splash. We sprayed it on various faces (with various levels of sensitivity to products) and stared at each other. For hours. When nothing happened everyone took a sigh of relief. Next we started to actually consider reviewing the product. With notes of sandalwood, the “elixir” as Man Up calls it, instantly offered a refreshing spray and cool sensation on our skin. The fortified, alcohol-free blend was a great addition to a post shave routine. After shaving the underpart of our necks, beard lines, faces, and back of neck areas, we sprayed 2-3 pumps of the splash. There was zero burn or irritation, yet a rather cool, subtle sandalwood aroma that was a welcoming mist. The aromatic sandalwood provided a smooth property to the elixir and with infused agents such as Irish moss and sage extract, our skin felt conditioned and refreshed. The Aloe vera juice is intended to reduce inflammation and the witch hazel tightens pores. With promises of diminished razor burn and radiant skin who wouldn’t want to try a few pumps?

Next we grabbed hold of the Replenishing Serum. The versatile serum went perfect with all types of facial textures- from beards to stubble and even baby faces, the serum was a hit. The serum can be used as a beard oil, after-shave oil, or supplement to any daily skin regimen.  The serum absorbs into the skin quickly, leaving skin with a silky smooth and low sheen appearance. The serum uses natural oils including prickly pear, argan, squalane, jojoba, marula, sweet almond, and meadowfoam. The antioxidant properties of these oils combat the damaging effects of free radicals our faces fend off ever day. When we placed a few drops on our hands and applied to our face, the oil texture was not too “oily” feeling and gave our skin an instant boost in smoothness and comfort. The dropper allows you to deliver the perfect amount to your hands and applying more or less is in the users comfort zone.

The Post Shave Splash and Replenishing Serum were both very smooth, refreshing, and left our skin feeling great. 

STANDOUT FEATURES

Ok, so trying something one time is good, but testing it out after multiple uses is a whole other level. After a week to two weeks of trying out both the Post Shave Splash and Replenishing Serum we were still impressed and noticed an overall smooth skin feel. The splash continues to be a refreshing charge after shaving and the serum continues to give our skin a more repleshed feel. The quality of the ingredients are simply on point and the added benefits of natural, healthy, and void of harmful ingredients accelerates this skin care line above some others.
