We know, right? Well, this is no gimmick or joke- it is though the business model of a new wine subscription our crew tried out: Cellars Wine Club.
Our crew loves to have the occasional glass of wine- and to be honest we SUCK at picking a good wine out of a lineup. We always head to the store, stare at a bunch of labels and numbers and think…sure this bottle looks cool, lets give it a go! Well, we wanted to let someone else pick for us, package up a box of legit tasting wine, and have it dropped at out door-like grownuping’ should be (did we just make up a word?). None-the-less, our crew gave Cellars Wine Club a spin and have our field tasting report for ya!
INITIAL IMPRESSIONS
When our crew first arrived on the homepage of Cellars Wine Club we immediately noticed one thing that was different than what we were used to: No freaking gimmicky survey! Yeah, we have tried other wine subscriptions and they ask questions that could change if you asked another day, never really seemed to result in the right vibe, and just seemed a bit too invasive- like why do we like long walks on beaches? None ya’ business wine-computer-wizard. Cellars Wine Club has none of that.
In just 3 simple steps our crew was on our way to delicious wine being picked, packaged, and shipped. When you arrive on the website for Cellars Wine Club, you are shown a variety of wine packages you can pick from. These range in not only quality, but price, frequency of shipment and of course value of wine. These range from West Coast Wines, to 90 Point Wines and of course: Premium Wines.
The wine selection is vast but not overwhelming. You can narrow down the type of wine you want based on your budget, the selection of value wines, and even follow some recommendations. They offer a total of 12 exclusive wine clubs in fact and their team has 20+ years in the wine business, so you know they pick some legit wine! Our crew started off with our wine club selection- We went for the import wines to try something a little different- since we live on the West Coast felt like mixing it up a bit. After our wine club selection, the team over at Cellars Wine Club packed our wine box along with tasting notes. In a matter of just a few days we had a box of wine sitting at our door-kinda like it was calling us to open it, we dunno. The bottle selection was carefully curated by their team of expert tasters and the wines can range from limited releases to international boutique vineyards, and everything in between.
With the first pick, of the 2021 Wine Draft, the duuude crew selects a European Wine, Altano Douro. We have always wanted to pick a wine like an NFL draft- but in all transparency, we didn’t pick this wine. The team at Cellars Wine Club did. In fact, they picked 4 bottles for us and within a day of opening the box, our crew had consumed all but one. Don’t judge. The bottom line is the wine selection was simply perfection. All bottles were different in flavor, location, year, blends, and flavor notes. Nothing was a name we knew, but that made it even better- we had a selection of wines we may not have chosen.
The Taste
Taste matters.No matter what your friends say, ok?! When it comes to taste, we could not be more impressed. No bottle was bitter, yet each was smooth, silky and had a great finish. Like a bobsled team in the Olympics. Each bottle was clean with no remnants, corking breaks, or bitter ends. All the bottles were delicious and packed with flavors we can’t put into words (and that’s hard for us because we live off words). The flavor was just as on point as the selection.
Overall Value
When it comes to value, our crew looks at Price+Quality+Enjoyment Level= Value. No, not the equation you are used to in school, but none the less it is how we rank a product like this. When it comes to value, we would say it rates at about an A-. Why not an A+? Well, being we are sort of control freaks, the idea of having wine picked for us without knowing what is coming is a roll of a dice we are not used to rolling. In addition to this, the price point could arguably be lower if you nabbed a bottle yourself from the store. But again, if the model you want is to take the guess work out of picking a good bottle and have that selection shipped to you- than ignore what we just said.

While we love most (if not all) Cellars Wine Club offers, we found a few things worthy of taking extra notes on:
Price Point- Cellars Wine Club has so many price options to choose from you can go big or scale it back- the choice is yours, and the wine is still good!
Variety- Flat out one of the best varieties on the market. Most wine clubs feature only local and mass produced wines. Not here.
Easy- This process could not be easier. Open website, pick the package, get wine picked from pros. The rest after that is solely up to you.
