Top 3 Reasons To Wear Shorts Over Your Tights

Shorts over running tights? Now that is one hot debate for guys in tights.

Some guys prefer to wear their men’s running tights as is, while some wear shorts over them. The thing is, there really isn’t a science when it comes to wearing shorts over your usual running tights for men, and it’s all about preference and other factors. In this post, we will look into these reasons and other possible ways you can wear a pair of shorts over your favorite Kapow Meggings running tights.

  1. Modesty

This is by far the number 1 reason why guys wear shorts over their compression leggings for running. Let’s face it, not all guys who do wear running tights will be comfortable with wearing just that. Most guys are more comfortable exercising in loose shorts or some runner shorts at the most. But wearing a skintight pair of compression leggings for running can get a bit socially daunting for some guys.

If you still don’t get it at this point -- some guys aren’t okay with their junk being 90% visible for the world to see, but that’s okay! Anyway, you can always wear a pair of shorts over your favorite running leggings. For girls, it may not seem like an issue, but for guys, it can be. Especially if you’re not used to being around girls or guys.

A good example of a situation like this is at school. Some schools allow their students to wear leggings for PE class, both girls and boys. After all, there is Science behind using mens running tights. This is also applicable in the gym, you might not be too comfortable wearing your running tights around so many people which is why wearing shorts over them can make you feel more at ease.

2. Warmth

Like with covering up for modesty, sometimes running leggings alone won’t cut it in the cold. So if the cold did bother you anyway, then a pair of shorts would help in keeping you warm. You might think -- how is a loose layer of clothing over a skin-tight layer of men’s running tights supposed to help keep you warm?

Apparently, working out or running in the cold can have some effects on the male body that isn’t that so modest to see in public. Likewise, it wouldn’t hurt to add on a layer to battle the cold.

Aside from having a male-related accident in public, wearing shorts over your running leggings, especially if they're a thin pair, can really help in keeping your legs warm and able to move while exercising in the cold. Make sure to opt for a pair of shorts that are made of warmer material if possible too.

3. Pockets

Guys in tights can relate to this on a spiritual level -- compression leggings for running don’t have pockets. As much as leggings are great to wear if you’re out and about running errands across town, the lack of pockets just makes things very inconvenient. And because of the lack of pockets to put your essentials in, many guys prefer to just grab a pair of shorts where they can just put everything in.

The good thing though is that now, there are actually running leggings for men that do have pockets! Some brands recognize the need to have your essential belongings with you especially if you’re up for your morning run or your nightly jog. You can grab a pair of men’s leggings with pockets at Kapow Meggings too.

Quick Fixes for Shorts Over Leggings

Now, if you’re still perplexed or raged over this issue -- well, some guys in tights are -- then here are some quick fixes to address the issue of the exercise faux pas that is -- shorts over running tights men.

Wear a longer top

Now, on the issue of modesty -- that is very valid. There are so many reasons for this, be it religion, rules and regulations, or just preference. If you’re not okay with being almost half naked in public, then it is fine. If you don’t like wearing shorts over your leggings but would just like to wear a pair for going out or exercising without your junk being visible, you can go ahead and wear a longer top that covers the essentials. A lot of guys in tights do this, especially if the leggings they are wearing to the gym are a bit too thin or revealing.

Thicker leggings

Yes, there are leggings that are made specifically for the cold. If you’re a fitness buff and you just have to get a run in while you’re out on a ski trip, then investing in a pair of thick leggings or leggings that are made specifically for working out in the cold would be a good move.

Leggings with pockets

Also, like we’ve mentioned, there are leggings that are made with built-in pockets. These types of leggings have basically revolutionized the use of leggings from undergarments, exercise-specific, to everyday wear. Leggings with pockets are a great way to store your essentials while you’re working out or doing errands. These pockets are usually big enough to store your phone, keys, and some cash! Some leggings are designed with normal pockets on the side, while others are built in at the back portion or on your legs.

So goodbye to wearing a fanny pack while out for a run!

Wear thick underwear

Now, if for some reason you are adamant about wearing your leggings with no shorts BUT you are still concerned about your junk showing through, you can just wear a pair of thick underwear to keep things under wraps. A good pair of thick compression underwear can help so that everything looks streamlined. However, make sure things aren’t too compressed down there, and you might just burst a vein or lose the complete feeling of the lower half of your body.

There’s nothing wrong with wearing shorts over leggings; it's all about preference.

Likewise, with wearing leggings alone, if you’re comfortable with it -- go ahead! Now, if you’re in the market for some bomb leggings, you can check out here! They offer a lot of great leggings for working out, or just for everyday errands!
