Why the Switch:

Before we dive into our list of Sunglass Brands you Need to Check Out- we first should share our logic and thoughts on “why the switch?”…We have grown to love the staple and name-brand classics like Maui Jim, Rayban, Oakley, Costa Del Mar, and Bolle to name a few- but when we have worn those over the years, we found that so did everyone else. We do like matching trends and finding similar quality amongst our friends, but some of these name brands only offered a limited amount of variety and often times costed more than we were willing to pay. So, we set out and tried a few new brands this past year and have noted some exciting things ahead for 2023. Here are just a few reasons why we are making the switch to alternative sunglass brands this year:

01 | They’re More Durable

One of the primary reasons we are switching to the following sunglass brands for 2023 is because they are more durable. In our experience, the sunglasses from these brands tend to last longer and stand up better to wear and tear. This is important because it means that you won’t have to replace your sunglasses as often, which can save you money in the long run.

02 | They Offer Better Protection

These sunglass brands also offer better protection from the sun’s harmful rays. The lenses on these sunglasses are typically made from higher-quality materials that do a better job of blocking out UV rays. This is important because it can help to protect your eyes from damage caused by exposure to the sun.

03 | They Look Better

In our opinion, these sunglass brands also offer a more stylish selection of sunglasses. The frames and lenses come in a variety of different styles that are sure to appeal to everyone. Whether you prefer a classic look or something more modern, you’ll be able to find sunglasses that suit your taste from these brands.

04 | They’re More Affordable

Another reason we are switching to these sunglass brands is because they are more affordable. While the initial cost of the sunglasses may be higher than some other brands, you will save money in the long run because they will last longer. Additionally, many of these brands offer discounts and promotions that make their sunglasses even more affordable.

05 | They Have Better Customer Service

Finally, we believe that these sunglass brands offer better customer service than other brands. If you have any problems with your sunglasses, or if you need help choosing a pair, the customer service representatives from these brands will be more than happy to assist you.

With that being said, let’s dive into these top sunglass brands we are digging for 2023:

03 | KORE Essentials- Reckless

Why we love these:

  • Embedded in each arm are Neodymium Smart Magnets that easily let you fold and lock them to your shirt, jacket, or gear- never drop a pair again!

  • UV400 Sun Protection with combined scratch-resistant and smudge proof lenses are the only way to roll these days.

  • Klarity Lenses enhance the natural color while giving us clarity when we are driving or on the water.

One review on Kore Essentials website calls these a “Brilliant Design” and we could not agree more. We first tried these out a few years back, but have to go back to them as one of our favorite in innovative designs. The smart magnet locking lets you clip these to anything, and we especially love the ability to click them onto the magnet strap on our sun visor when not wearing them. These lenses also are made with a high-grade Polarizer that offer superior glare reduction. We are active guys so the durability, flexibility and lightweight construction is exactly what any outdoor enthusiast needs in a pair of shades.

04 | Tomahawk Shades- The STAGGS

Why we love these:

  • Mass produced goods sometimes are faulty when it comes to durability. These shades are small batch made- making for better quality overall

  • Coming in at only $80, we think these are worth every penny.

  • We love the variety here. The frame shapes, to colors, and the lenses are even cool colors.

Small batch made has our eyes on Tomahawk Shades. This brand really knows how to make a solid pair of shades under $100. Tomahawk Shades makes great eyewear at an affordable price and doesn't require you to spend last week's paycheck to get them. Not only is their pricing legit, small batch production above standard, but they also work with professional athletes who share a similar vision. Athletes like Chris Hogan (2x Super Bowl Champion), Matt Martin (NHL Player), Kyle Harrison (Professional Lacrosse Legend), and Kylie Ohlmiller (Top Women's Lacross Player)…yeah we named dropped. The future of Tomahawk Shades is strong as we look forward to their 2023 impressive portfolio of high quality sunglasses and bluelight glasses.

06 | RAEN Optics- Wiley

Why we love these:

  • We dig the metal frames on these and know they can take a beating and still look solid.

  • Everyones face looks different. Spoiler alert, we know. So, why run the risk? With the virtual try on you can see what you’ll see before you see it….you get it.

  • Featuring 100% UVA/UVB protection and 6 base curve.

RAEN says they made the Wiley because they think you like to go places. We say they made them because they know how to design a pair of shades nobody wants to take off. These are lightweight with a masculine silhouette for the modern adventurer. The Wiley utilizes square shapes and harder lines while maintaining the proportions and design cues of the Remmy (another killer pair from their lineup). Their strong silhouette is cut for adventure, and made for seeing the sunrise on new horizons. Wiley has a medium fit and is best suitable for round or oval face shapes.

Wrap-Up

While we suggest the above mentioned shades, we would be amiss to not inlcude some “buyers guide” tips when looking into new shades this coming year. While there are many simialirites between the brands we mentioned and those you are more familiar with, we think these key tips are important when cosnidering your next new pair of shades.

TIP 1: Look for new styles in 2023

In 2023, the most popular style of sunglasses is looking to be aviator sunglasses. Could be due to the resurgence of Top Gun Maverick- but regardless of the reason, Aviator sunglasses are making a comeback. Other popular styles of sunglasses that will be trendy in 2023 include cat-eye sunglasses and round sunglasses.

Tip 2: Look for new lens technology in 2023

One of the biggest trends in sunglasses in 2023 will be new lens technology. Many companies are now offering lenses that are specifically designed to reduce eye fatigue and protect your eyes from harmful blue light. These new lenses will be a great option for people who spend a lot of time staring at screens. Many of the brands above feature this, and include lenses that reduce glare and blue light.

Tip 3: Look for new frame materials in 2023

Another trend that will be big in 2023 is the use of new materials for sunglasses frames. In particular, sustainable materials such as bamboo and recycled plastic will be very popular. These materials are not only environmentally friendly, but they also look great and are very durable.

If you're in the market for a new pair of shades as we head into 2023, be sure to check out some of the brands we've mentioned. You won't be disappointed with the quality or style-and can know we have a “eyes-on” experience with each and every pair of these shades. And who knows? Maybe by 2023 these will be your new favorite go-to sunglasses brand.
