Affordable Shades Never Felt So Good.

Honest Question: Why pay over $200 for sunglasses, when you can spend less than $100 on quality, lightweight, premium eyewear? Yeah- thats what the founders at Tomahawk Shades asked themselves before launching a premium eyewear brand at an affordable price point. Tomahawk Shades started with two brothers, Andrew & Ryan Shapiro, and an idea to bring high quality eyewear to the masses at fair prices. Shades made in small batches (to control the quality of the products), creates some of the highest quality shades at an affordable price.

Tomahawk Shades works with professional athletes who share a similar vision: Chris Hogan (2x Super Bowl Champion), Matt Martin (NHL Player), Kyle Harrison (Professional Lacrosse Legend), and Kylie Ohlmiller (Top Women's Lacross Player). The brains and bronze behind these shades create a very unique blend of design, practicality, and price-point one-of-a-kind shades. Our crew wanted to give these shades a try(on) to see how they handled the heat.

INITIAL IMPRESSIONS

When you hop on the Tomahawk Shades website one thing stands out: They have a look for any style. You can see their sunglasses organized nicely, and the “Shop by Class” section easily lets you see what styles there are to choose from. Styles like Outlaw, Marksman, Garrison, and Warpig are some of our initial favorites- to name a few.

Our crew focused on two different sunglass styles for the review: The Parkers and Neuralyzers.

The Parkers FEATURES

The Parkers are a pair of shades that offer a more classic look. The frame is a glossy burbon tortoise color with an internal steel structure. The lens is a FDA approved smoke color with impact resistance and polarized protection- All good things to protect your eyes on the beach, lake, or company picnic.

The Neuralyzers offer an elevated look- you know, Elite Status. The classic Wayfarer design meets comfort and durability you can get your head around. These are great for the office or the backyard BBQ this summer. With the black injected frame mold and the spring hinge mechanism, comfort meets visual aesthetics we immediately loved. The lenses are FDA approved impact resistant and feature UV400 protection.

TESTING IT OUT

So now that we have our pairs of shades from Tomahawk- how do they hold up and fit the day ahead?

COMFORT

When it comes to finding sunglasses, one of our biggest selling points is the overall comfort. If shades are not comfortable to wear all day, what is the point? Well, in terms of comfort we are diggin’ the Tomahawk comfort factor. Each frame was extremely lightweight, fit our head perfectly, and did not have uncomfortable pressure points on the nose or ears. The frame design is thin and lightweight, and at times we forgot we even had them on. Good range of eye motion and no random blocks in vision when we looked N/E/S/W. Our favorite feature by far is the internal spring hinge- no more fear of breaking or not fitting when you slide on your head.

Overall we would say the comfort score is a 10/10

DURABILITY

Durability is something that is not only important in building, bridges, and castles (random reference we know). It matters in your sunglasses too.

If you are one of those delicate sunglasses wearers- you know, you put them back in the case after each use, than you are not our people. If you are a toss on the seat, drop on the ground, fall off your head when you are playing competitive volleyball on the beach- than YOU ARE OUR PEOPLE. So, naturally that is how we test for a sunglasses’ durability. Well, you are in luck. We did ALL the things in these (hey, that is none of your business), and they held up better than that bottle of scotch in your cabinet. After weeks of abuse, use, wear and tear- the shades did not break or bend. The repeated exposure to car sun didn’t even phase these puppies.

Overall we would say the durability score is a 9/10

OVERALL

What can we say other than we are in love with these shades. Both designs we tested were comfortable, lightweight, durability, sleek AF, and didn’t cost a months worth of rent to have. The spring hinge was the biggest hit for guys like us who spread the frames wide to fit on our heads, and the lightweight design is like wearing a feather on your face. The range of colors, combo’s, and UV protection is huge hit and the frame coloring is perfectly balanced and not too dark/light. Tomahawk Shades hit these out of the park.
