Our crew loves coffee. Our crew lives off coffee. Our crew would be lost without coffee. Not sure we can say it in any other way but WE DIG COFFEE. Coffee fuels our crew just as much as it fuels others who enjoy a nice warm cup of joe.
So when our crew stumbles across a coffee brand claiming to offer something new and different we take notice. The crew over at Steeped Coffee did something that grabbed our attention in the coffee game: ground coffee filled steeping bags! Say what? Yeah- 100% specialty Direct Trade craft coffee that's hand roasted locally in small batches, precision ground to the micron, and nitro-sealed for freshness inside a steeping bag. Sign us up!
Our crew had to try this coffee out to see if a coffee brand claiming to rid yourself of fancy brewing machines while still delivering high quality tasting coffee was all it said it could be.

INITIAL IMPRESSIONS
We won’t lie to you- we thought this was just another instant coffee. Spoiler alert: we were wrong. Not sure why exactly, but the idea of ground coffee in a bag meant for steeping (like tea) didn’t quite register for us. But then we tried it. This by no means is instant coffee! This is more than that- it’s Pour Over! But first, our initial impression:
The flavor varieties offered by Steeped Coffee we tested out included their Sunrise Blend, California Blend, Odyssey Blend, Driftwood Blend, and Eventide Decaf. The range of coffee offered includes light roast (starting with Sunrise Blend) to Darker Roasts (rounding out with their Driftwood Blend).
The packaging, labels, and instructions really are easy and straightforward. Easily put: Equipping yourself with a roast of your choice, a coffee mug, and some hot water (8oz to be exact), you can be well on your way to some instant pour over coffee. Perfect for a one cup brew, Steeped has its process and promise down to a fine grind.
Our initial duuude impression: This could replace other pour over methods you’ve tried!
TESTING IT OUT
Now the test: how does it taste and how is it to make? Our crew grabbed a kettle, a coffee mug for each bag, and one of each blends Steeped Coffee offers. Water heated to a nice steam, Steeped Coffee bags individually in their own mugs, and coffee hungry crew members salivating at the aroma alone from each bag. Let’s do this!
We followed the step by step instructions set out by Steeped Coffee on the instruction card (short version-pour hot water over bag and steep for 5 minutes) and watched the coffee brew up before our eyes. The aroma from each bag was outstanding and gave off subtle yet varying profiles of each roasts unique blend.

The first cup we made was not the best- but that was on us. We didn’t steep as long as we should have the first cup- so it came out a bit weak. However, the next pours of coffee were on point. The flavors of each different blend were strong and consistent in each sip. The dark blends were bold and strong in flavor. The light roasts did need a bit more steeping for our liking but that doesn’t take away from the smooth flavor with each cup. The tasting profile was similar to the texture and smoothness that one would find when making traditional pour over.
The best part, aside from the flavor, was the ease of cleanup. Simply toss out the steeped bag when done and just like that- coffee done without the mess.
