Flavor Eruption with Volcanica Coffee

Coming in Hot Like Lava: Volcanica Coffee

Nothing is as great as that first sip of coffee in the morning- ok maybe there is one thing greater (but that’s your biz not ours). Back to coffee…Volcanica Coffee focuses on high-quality single origin coffees while also helping to educate consumers about what coffee can truly be. Volcanica works directly with both local coffee farms and cooperatives, to source the best beans to ensure top quality.

Volcanica Coffee stocks over 160 of the worlds finest coffees and houses them under one streamlined website so you can easily shop, find, and nab your next best bag. These different coffee offerings include single origin, estate, peaberry, decaf and flavored coffees from all around the world. All of Volcanica coffees are freshly roasted in Atlanta, GA and shipped right to your door! All you need is a coffee machine and something to sip it from. Our crew got our taste buds on some of the varieties offered so we could spill the beans to ya’ll.

INITIAL IMPRESSIONS

Our initial impression of Volcanica Coffee was sort of coffee overload. We honestly did not expect to have so many options for coffee under one roof- and keep in mind they are not a consortium for other coffee brands. All the coffees sold are Volcanica blends!

With so much variety, our crew was not sure if we wanted to shop by coffee blends (Like Estate, Decaf options, Organic, Dark Roast, and more):

…Or, should we shop by region of coffee? Regions like Africa & Arabia, the Caribbean, or a more local American blend…with so many choice to choose from, we took the easy way out and tried the 3 pack bundle blend (which happens to be their most popular lineup).

We dove into the Essential Bundle which includes three of Volcanica’s best selling coffees. This bundle is perfect for coffee lovers looking to expand their horizons with previous customer's favorite picks in one package. The bundle includes Ethiopian Yirgacheffe, Kenya AA, and Costa Rica Peaberry blends. Each bag came whole bean and ready to grind and brew. The 3-packs are the ideal option for the adventurous coffee lover. Hand picked by coffee experts across the world, this is the blend of blends! If you want to explore the world of amazing coffee and experience the nuances and characteristics of different regions-this is the sauce. Each bundle include three 16 oz coffees and are roasted in house to perfection.

Our initial duuude impression: Let’s get brewing shall we?

The Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Coffee is a unique organically grown coffee with a complex origin and truly exotic flavor with pleasant acidity. Yirgacheffe is a coffee region in southern Ethiopia that produces distinctively floral and fruit-toned coffees from traditional varieties of Arabica long grown in the region from wild coffee trees. The best Ethiopia dry-processed coffee tends to be a medium-bodied, brilliantly acidic, and containing rough fruity or winy tones.

Our crew loved the medium blend of this roast. The lemon really comes through (but not overwhelming). The blend of berry flavor is a refreshing flavor for any morning or afternoon brew. Top choice around the office.

The Kenya AA Coffee has a reputation as an unsurpassed top-quality coffee. This meticulously prepared East African coffee is famous for its rich body, pleasant, vibrant acidity, fragrant aroma, and winy aftertaste with overtones of berries and citrus. Kenyan coffee is commonly described as having an almost sweet taste accompanied by wine-like or fruity overtones. They are well-known all over the world and sought after for their bold, intense, full-bodied flavors accompanied by overtones of berry, citrus fruits, and mild floral fragrances. This has lead to Kenya AA coffee being described as sweet with a bright acidity. It is proven that coffees made with Kenyan AA coffee beans contain little-to-no bitter flavors.

We dug the rich bodied flavor of this blend. We for sure could taste the wine-like flavors and the acidity is spot on. We even picked up a little subtle blend of sweet which balances the acid side of the house. Dang good drip right here.

  • Single Origin Coffee: Grown at an altitude of about 5,200 feet

The Costa Rica Peaberry Coffee is from the Aquiares Estate located in the Tres Rios region near the pacific coast. This world prized, single estate peaberry coffee is shade-grown and rain forest certified at an altitude of about 5,200 feet. Highly prized by connoisseurs for its balance and intensity of flavors such as honey, lemon, and almond, this coffee is a great example of a typical coffee from the region as they tend to be mildly sweet and bright. Highly prized for their unique flavor, these beans are considered one of the rarest in the crop.

We visited Costa Rica and say with almost 100% certainty this blend brought us back. It was amazing and simply the best blend we tried. Man, it is so dang good we might be ordering a barrel full to have ready on hand at all times. The balance of flavors is something to write home about. No joke some of the best we have tasted (and we drink allllloottt of coffee).

Testing these coffee blends/varieties out was a hit around the office. The bag holding the coffee didn’t impact the taste, and the beans were fresh and perfect. Much respect to Volcanica for delivering such good quality coffee with so many options.

BONUS FEATURES

At Volcanica Coffee we are committed to producing quality coffee with little to no impact on the environment. In order to provide a smaller carbon footprint, they utilize a state-of-the-art Ovenpak 400 afterburner to remove smoke and odor while cleaning harmful particulates caused by the roasting process. We can practically smell it in the air still…..

coffee process

Another cool note is that the afterburner’s design ensures that roasting pollutants, such as NOx, CO, various dust, and other harmful components, are removed and disposed of during the roasting process with clean natural gas. Essentially, the afterburner controls the output of emissions, while complying with local and federal environmental regulations.

The roasting process creates smoke and odor byproducts that can only be removed at over 800 degrees Fahrenheit. The Ovenpak 400 afterburner scorches these pollutants at 1550 degrees Fahrenheit to ensure that all particulates are combusted during the process, with thermal oxidization generating massive amounts of heat to produce an efficiency rate of 99.8% of gas waste removal. Science for ya folks- in action.

BRAND INFO

Our inspiration came from frequent trips to our homeland of Costa Rica, where we constantly enjoyed coffee with tremendous flavor. At the same time, we knew most people in the U.S. were satisfied with tasteless, bitter coffee and were unaware that coffee could be an exotic experience.
