When organic options started hitting the coffee market years ago, the flavor tasted like a lot of the earth made it’s way into the cup (if you know what we mean). While we all are fans of dirt, we don’t know if coffee should taste like it. So, when the crew at Tayst Coffee came out with the first completely biodegradable coffee pod for the home and office, our crew had to give it a try.
The team at Tayst came up with a biodegradable pod that is an all around crowd pleaser for both home office coffee lovers and for those who like also pour one over while at work. With one of the first biodegradable coffee pods on the market, our crew wanted to get a taste of tayst.
INITIAL IMPRESSIONS
Our initial impression of Tayst starts with the whole idea behind Tayst and their single serve pods that did not impact the environment like traditional pods. Tayst searched for a year to find the right mechanism to distribute their coffee properly while also avoiding harm to the planet. What they found was their 100% compostable pods… meaning they actually gives back fertile nutrients to the soil as it decomposes.
A rundown (or breakdown rather) of the Pods from Tayst start with the lid and work it’s way down to the mesh.
The lid is made made from bio materials and water-based compostable ink
The Ring is made from compressed corn starch combined with a bio resin
The Mesh is renewable bio resins
Unlike the punch hole most single serve cups use, Tayst’s mesh filter allows for even water filtration producing fuller flavors and smoother mouth feel.
The lineup from Tayst is just as robust as their concept around biodegradable pods. Tayst features Bold flavors including Bold & Brazen, Bold & Brilliant, more Medium flavors like Medium & Magnificent, Medium & Heroic, and other varieties such as Vintage Vanilla Cream, Happy Hazelnut, and even a Decaf option. Each flavor brings a range of flavors, coffee profiles, and silky finishes. Tayst not only focuses on doing good for mother earth but also wants each sip to be spot on.

TESTING IT OUT
Now that our crew ripped open the box from Tayst, we took 2 of the flavor varieties, popped in the Pods, and poured a cup for all to try. Each pod brought a different level of flavor and punch-
Bold & Brazen
Compostable
Variety: Bold and Rich Deep Flavor

Finish: Smokey Cocoa
This coffee is quite the kick in the cup! The bold blend of this brew has a really rich deep flavor with a smokey cocoa finish. The beans used are made from beans grown and harvested in South America. Tayst roasts them down to extract the oils that enhance the distinct flavors of the Blends. The flavor finishes really smooth and is very bold. Like, BOLD, BOLD. If you like more flavor and a stronger coffee this one is the one to nab. The cocoa is subtle but there, and is really clean and not bitter tasting.
Medium & Heroic
Compostable
Variety: Bold and Burly Flavor

Recommended: Freshly Brewed
Finish: Sweet and slightly acidic tang
Just like the bolder varieties, this burly blend comes from South America as well. We noticed the sweet and slightly acidic tang taste is well balanced as well. If you like a little less bold and a bit more bite (say that 3x fast) the medium blend here is a less intense but still flavorful brew. We really like the balance here of the flavor and the finish. We could smell this throughout the office before we even sipped and we loved not only the taste but the smell too. Very solid medium blend.
Testing these coffee blends/varieties out was a hit around the office. For some Pod coffee it is weak or not as flavorful (in our opinion)- but Tayst has a well developed body. This is no weak sauce coffee and don’t let the Pod factor deter you- it’s bold and brewtiful.
